Litecoin Mining Howto : 3 Simple Steps
Step 1 : Get a Wallet
The first thing you need to do is get a “Litecoin Wallet”. Because Litecoin is an internet based currency, you need a place to keep your Litecoins. Go to http://www.litecoin.org and download the Litecoin client for your Operating System. Once installed, the client will begin to download the blockchain or transaction history. Downloading the blockchain can take some time and will be over 6GB of data. Once the client is up to date, go to "Receive Coins" and click “New Address”. This will create a new Litecoin address that you can use to receive coins. It will be a long sequence of letters and numbers. One of most important things you can do is make sure you have a copy of the wallet.dat file on a different hard drive and keep it in a safe location. You can also encrypt your wallet which adds a layer of security but is beyond the scope of this introduction. Just be aware that if your computer crashes and you do not have a copy of your wallet.dat file, you will lose all of your Litecoins. They won’t go to someone else, they will disappear forever. It is like burning cash.
Step 2 : Install a Miner
Step 3: Connect your miner to Harvest Coin
In your miner installation directory, create a new text file using Notepad or any other basic editor on your system.
Enter in the following information so that it looks similar to this :
- -o indicates the Harvest Coin Litecoin URL : http://mining.harvestcoin.com:9327
- -u is the username, or in this case the Litecoin address that you wish to have Litecoins sent to
- NOTE : MAKE SURE YOU ENTER YOUR OWN LITECOIN ADDRESS AND NOT THE ONE IN THE SCREENSHOT ABOVE AS YOUR COINS WILL END UP BEING SENT SOMEWHERE ELSE
- -p is any password you choose
Save the file as StartMining.bat (make sure you save it with a .bat extension)
Double click on the StartMining.bat file and your miner will start up, looking something like this
You are now connected to the distributed Litecoin mining pool and your miner is starting to mine Litecoins!
Now you just need to sit back and wait for your miner to generate some coins. Due to the way the distributed mining protocol works, it is normal to not see any payments for at least 24 hours. Please give it close to 48 hours before looking to change anything.
In the meantime, you can view ongoing Harvest Coin stats at http://mining.harvestcoin.com:9327 in your browser
